Structural Equation Modeling on Rehabilitative Motivation of Individuals with Acquired Disabilities

Abstract
Motivation is an integral component in rehabilitation process. The purpose of this study was to test a structural equation model which proposed the effects of physical, psychological, financial, and social factors on motivation in rehabilitation. Data of 158 participants was analyzed using PASW and AMOS 7.0 programs. The results revealed that self-efficacy was the most critical factor in rehabilitative motivation. Social support influenced on self-efficacy. No direct effect has been found between financial status and rehabilitative motivation. The extent of social support and physical function impact on self-efficacy respectively. The level of disability acceptance was influenced by self-efficacy. According to the analysis, several implications in rehabilitation was suggested such as development of systematic self-efficacy program, on-going supports from multidisciplinary team and encouragement of using motivational interviewing skills in rehabilitation counseling, etc.
